Professor David Wessel shows his multi-touch interface that uses computer technologies that allow him to experiment with fine controls to "caress" the instrument.
Mathematical discoveries and the things which our mathematical symbols represent are some of the most beautiful things that humans have ever accomplished. Here are just a few of my favorite equations.
By exploiting the powers of nanotechnology and taking advantage of non-toxic, Earth-abundant materials, Berkeley Lab's Cyrus Wadia has fabricated new solar cell devices that have the potential to be several orders of magnitude less expensive than conventional solar cells.
An engineering and manufacturing road show on wheels has begun touring the UK to bring the latest and future technologies to businesses and schools.
IBM and the US Department of Energy today announced an historic milestone in computing, which has enormous implications for a variety of issues critical to society, such as climate change, alternative energy, and financial services.
As oil prices increase, the demand for coal rises rapidly. But coal mining often has negative effects on the surrounding environment. There are hundreds of contaminated mine sites in the U.S., and 144 in Pennsylvania alone.

I typically attend the annual Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy each year in pursuit of specific coverage. This year, I sought out candidates for coverage in a vacuum technology article, and pulled together some instruments for a spectroscopy guide. But as busy as that kept me, it wasn’t all mass spectrometers and vacuum pumps on the show floor.
